VICTIMIZED LASPOTECH WORKERS ORGANIZED DEMONSTRATION IN COURT

The agitated Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) workers gathered in Magistrate Court, Oyingbo, Lagos (27/11/2019) to register their grievances against the led management of Mr. Shogoru, who has been conducting marital laws on issues around and against, the democratic rights of workers, welfare, wages and other related anti-labour sharp practices. The case which was slated for hearing on 27/11/2019, was adjourned for Wednesday 22 January, 2020.

However, more than Fifty Five victimized staff workers of LASPOTECH were in court for the hearing, but the management prosecutor(s) were not in court for the hearing to kick off. Mr. Akin Lajakpere (legal counsel of LASPOTECH workers) who was in court with the workers said, the management doesn't have any substantial charges at hand that is fundamental, which is why the prosecutor has failed to reply the amended suit.

At the mini demonstration that was conducted immediately after the court sitting. Akin Lajakpere address the workers and assured them that justice shall prevail as far the victimized workers are consistent, and what they are fighting for, is fundamentally for their democratic rights. Other leading members of the ASUP, NASU and SSANIP in LASPOTECH spoke at the demonstration, and assured their members that they will keep on with the fight, until victory is attain.

The leaders in the three respective unions who spoke said, they have lost about 3 staff members at the course of this struggle. That their death were largely caused by the management anti-labour attack to band unions, clamp down on workers right; which on their part as workers is victimization. The Union leaders said, because of this, they have continued to engaged the management with peaceful demonstration, rallies and actions to resist the led Shogoru draconian policies of attacking public education.

Members of Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights (CDWR) were there to give solidarity support to the victimized workers. 10 copies of the SD on the rate of N1000 were sold on at the brief demonstrations that lasted for Forty Five Minutes with chanted solidarity songs and greetings. The workers were urge by CDWR members to continue the struggle and most importantly, fight to retain their Union and use it to fight for improve welfare, at the same time, for adequate funding of public education.

The issue at hand has been the bulwark policies of the school management to crush the union, and turn LASPOTECH to complete toy of manipulation. Among the 38 staff members, about 11 of them are females, who the school management with the undisclosed support of the Sanwo-Olu led APC regime, arraign the workers and charge them to magistrate court, Oyingbo for organizing resistances against the government unscrupulous bashing of public education to mercilessly.

The CDWR on their part has already commence campaign on the N30, 000 minimum wage, end to casualization and all anti-labour practices. While the campaign has been building up and workers are beginning to identify with it. CDWR call on leadership of NLC, ULC and TUC etc to give solidarity support cap with actions to the LASPOTECH workers, whose struggle has been protracted. Suggesting this, will help to embolden the campaign against attack on democratic rights of staff members, in universities as in Lagos State University (LASU).

It will be what you don't like about the place. The things you think are good, bad, or ugly to you. Or, those things that you are thinking about the place that needs immediate attention from the government. Is it the social life? The environment or other things will require those in the local authorities to start finding a solution to the problem.
