ALABA-ORA IS ON 2 YEARS OF REJECTING ESTIMATED BILLING

Yesterday (29/11/2019) under the aegis of Ajegunle People's Movement, was at electricity meeting at Alaba-Ora community to show solidarity. (One copy of the Socialist bulletin - new edition - was sold).

The meeting has about 45 persons, mostly women of different age brackets including men and youth. The centre of discussion was on the estimated billing, the court matter and mobilization and sensitization of residents in the community.

The campaign has lasted for about 2 years now. And residents especially the poor mass, has been engaging the Eko Disco despite the terroristic method the company has adopted. In spite of the low ebbed, however, the Alaba-Ora electricity campaign still serve as an inspiration to a lot of  community.

Residents in the area especially the women, who more less (in ratio) made up the "task force", has been consistent in the campaign despite the matter is in court: Federal High Court and Magistrate Court respectively.

The matter, according to report of yesterday meeting, shall come up on Dec 10 Federal High and Dec 12 for Magistrate, Ajegunle. They plan to mobilize themselves to court for the New adjourned date.

Importantly, and because of the pressure from below, the EKEDC has requested for last month bills from residents to be return in order to resolve the outstanding bills, caused by estimated billing. However, the meeting has resolved to mount more pressure on the EKEDC in spite the matter is in court.

All over different communities, residents are tired of paying crazy bills and at the same time, other communities like Uzor, Orodu etc Ajegunle are recently organizing themselves to demand for regular power supply and against the estimated billing.

The demand for re-nationalization of the power sector under democratic control and management of electricity workers and the consumers, is ultimately what should be the burning demand now, as residents are beginning to wake up on this matter.

Agege: under the bridge. Credit: The Campaigner By Davy Fidel Freelancer/Author. T here are plenty of things to always say when you are visiting a place. It will be what you don't like about the place. The things you think are good, bad, or ugly to you. Or, those things that you are thinking about the place that needs immediate attention from the government. Is it the social life? The environment or other things will require those in the local authorities to start finding a solution to the problem.
