"Terminal operators, MWUN sign agreement to enhance dockworkers welfare"

For a lot of dock workers especially the forceful retrenched 688. This might be a resounding relief that finally, the clarion call of the Energy Neftegas Limited (ENL), has agreed to signed the collective bargaining agreement, which for many has come to stay.

However, the question to post is that, is it not the same agreement the Nigerian Port Authority, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency; and the Nigerian Workers Maritime Union signed May 28, 2008? ENL since the inception of this tripartite agreement has refused to pay the N33, 000 minimum wage with 10% bi-annual increment.

The refusal of ENL Consortium Limited to pay the workers their 10years salaries since 2008, has led to continue protest and agitations. Currently, the case is in the Nigerian Industrial Labour court over the non-payment of the 10years minimum wage since May, 2016; and the new adjourned date is January 23, 2019. Solidarity should be given to the workers for them to earn victory.
