At Awodi-Ora community Thursday 15 February, 2018 exactly 7: 25pm. Members of the Socialist Party of Nigeria and the Democratic Socialist Movement respectively organize community tabling to sensitized residents, workers, youths etc to circulate the JOIN US SPN leaflet, calling on people to join the party.
People who collected the leaflets especially women were distaste with the ongoing economic hardship. For some of them they said something must be done to curb this deepening crisis, where poverty has triple compare to the previous years. On their part, they poured out angry tune about the Buhari so-called regime that hasn't done nothing to make life better for the people.
According to one of the women in a street: Okito, where the SPN leaflet were been circulated. She said "my broda we don tire fo dis kontiri wey bi say tins don cos' lik food". Another woman in her words also observed that "Fela don sing am. Suffering and smiling". If we no do anytin. Tins go kontinu dey go bad, my brodas'. Others who were there who received the leaflet demonstrated total dissatisfaction and said a change must be put in place.
The comrades who circulated the leaflets encouraged them to join the SPN. That the only way to put up a political fight against the APC, PDP and all looters parties and politicians is by organizing ourselves and possibly identify themselves with the Socialist Party of Nigeria. Without this, the problem will continue to pile up and swallow us while we head toward 2019 and aftermath.
One interesting thing in today's community tabling/leaflet is many of the people in the Awodiora community in Ajegunle expresses anger. For majority of them, the Buhari led APC government has fail them the masses. Poverty has increase. A lot of the youth who aren't with gainful employment emphasize worriness of their future.
They complain of the growing tension in the neighborhood in respective of unemployment. That there is no job. That they will just be at home from dawn till the night start weeping for their future. However, members of DSM who were circulating both the leaflets of SPN/CARE call on them to join the SPN in order for us to collectively build an alternative.
Residents in the Awodi-Ora community who saw the SPN banner stationed at the rallied point in Oko Babasule Street when Ajegunle Stand Up Against Darkness campaign was launched by DSM Ajegunle in April 5, 2017, quickly identify with the comrades and begin to asked question about the party and what its stands for.
Answers were given concerning the party. That SPN compare to other pro-rich political parties like the APC, PDP, APGA etc is different because of its program which represents the pro-masses interest in education, electricity, road, employment etc. Importantly, the electricity crisis and the lingering darkness the community is suffering now.
It was brought back by some of the residents who collected the both leaflets respectively. For majority something must be done to end this exploitation by the Eko Distribution Company and largely the growing hardship and poverty people are force to go through on daily basis. The circulation of the leaflet were more than six streets. Subsequently the electricity meeting shall be called.
However, the DSM/SPN members urges residents to join the party for us all to end this exploitation and private run economy. Despite no body bought the socialist bulletin. There were wholehearted and warm support towards the SPN because of the electricity struggle held in the community that the DSM members have played leading role in the leadership under the platform of Ajegunle Peoples' Movement (APM), awodi-ora chapter.
