Hotel
business is fast growing and flooding all poor communities all over the world.
China, the United States, Europe, Africa etc are not exempted. In fact,
virtually all corners in the commercial or mega cities of the world have either
hotel or club house that employ possibly young girls and boys into the sex
industry to labour for the business to expand beyond its industrial
expectation.
Among
the business flourishing, hotel is one of the biggest rated industries that
promote casualization of women and staff. For the hotel casuals the payment is
low and they can be laid-off at any time by the employer after months or years
of exploitation.
The
operation of this business has razed down a lot of homes in many communities
for the operators own purpose and interest to continue. For this business to
continue to grow state protection is necessary. Limited access to public
education and the collapse of recreational centres to preoccupy young people
for them to explore their potential and be productive through the state direct
role in social welfare and adequate industrialization of the economy, have
largely contributed to the rise of hundreds of hotels including club house.
No
provision of quality employment added with basic needs is also a big vacuum
created in the life of people who run into this mess. The current reality
doesn't lie. It is the fact before this range of crises. Most especially, women
have been used as cheap labour for these hotels and club houses to increase the
weight of the pulse. In most occasions, teenage girls are showcased like doll
for the business to sell. They are commodities bought to render services when
directed by the operators of this merchandise. Like in Las Vegas, one of
the merchandise and glamorous cities as argued when it comes to this
industrialization; is a living reality in the United States: the home of big
capital.
In
the US, while there is huge contrast in cost of living compare to the neo-liberal and neo-colonial states, yet we can't say big capital is bailing out
its own crisis. Because of this, many of these teenage girls are in fact from
poor background whose parents are unable to provide their education and
well-being. This is an indication of the negligence of the successive US
governments. That Trump will restore back better living condition for people is
an illusion for anyone to think of. It is also not unconnected to the
crisis the US economy is facing presently caused in the past decades after the
global recession that hurts badly the US economy; where a lot of people are
forced to pay for the sins of global capital.
Statistically,
it was reported that in the United States, there is high rate of
women exploitation and increase in the numbers of women especially teenage
girls going into prostitution to survive. According to the Sex-Crime Laws
report states that "60% percent of children (that is teenage girls)
reported missing as a result of running away becomes prostitute to
survive" who are mostly between 16 and 17 of age. Another embarrassing
statement from this report is "58% of American prostitute reported violent
assault at the hands of clients" because the heavy pulse system that
create this crisis for the poor doesn't have any law protecting women
exploitation, thus, is for the merchandise.
Hotel
business and the sex industry booming both internationally and locally like in
major cities as present condition portrayed in backward countries like Nigeria.
It is not also unconnected to the issues on Girls and Women Trafficking into
the sex industry. The Telegraph Newspaper (London) in a report published on 14
September, 2017 said "of the 100, 000 migrants who have been rescued at
sea so far this year and brought to Italy. 15% percent were Nigerians".
This is a glaring fact what a lot of people go through in Nigeria to
survive as present reality constitutes for the poor. The hotel business is
profitable for a lot of these operators who reap from it.
Las
Vegas as mentioned earlier for example, have hundreds of hotels you will see
with strippers employed both in the US and from South American countries like
Trinidad and Tobago, Chile, Bahamas as well as countries like Nigeria,
Taiwan, India, etc employed as casual sex workers to market the
merchandise as mostly done in commercial programs.
For
the Tycoon is business as usual and part of the market that rich politicians
from rich parties protect enacting patent laws. But in the other coin is a
version of women exploitation as sex workers for the industry. This is another
ugly page of finance capital in the grasp of big bulls.
While
hotel business is now heavy pulse for a lot of investors any "iron
bank" oriented mind would like to invest into because of the heavy pulse
to be increased. In Lagos, the operation of hotel is big business in many
neighbourhood like in Ajegunle (and other metropolitan areas: Apapa, Agege,
Surulere, Victoria Island, Lekki etc) where I reside one of the poorest ghetto
in Nigeria, hotels business is fasting growing like mustard seed. In fact, in
major street or neighbourhood you will see hotel situated in the community with
women employed cheaply by the owners operating the business to promote whatever
the operators say the girls should do.
Let’s
take Ojo Road as an example. It has more than ten hotels operating. Some are
newly built and owed by those who are beneficiaries of one politician or other
affiliate to the big fishes in sea drinking the oil alone. Between the hours of
8pm till 2am beginning from Friday's, which for most of the big hotels and club
houses is the first day of the week that people patronize them. Many of these
sex workers will sometimes strip naked, standing at the front of the hotel
searching for clients that want to buy night relaxation. Yes, it will be argued
by sympathizers or defenders of heavy pulse that it is human nature. But
fundamentally, the issue is not human nature. Thus, it is all about the causes
of young girls becoming strippers and prostitutes to guarantee the day's meal;
and exploitation on women by these operators.
However,
because of the growth of this industry in poor neighbourhood and also looking
at the market angle of it, multi-national and indigenous companies in Nigeria
like Nigerian Brewery and others are now directly investing through partnership
with many of these hotels operators to sell their product. For them is business
as usual. It is an opportunity the market has created and they need to exploit.
For a lot of these corporate organizations whose objective is 'market' and
'heavy pulse', nothing is wrong with system responsible for this crisis,
encapsulating people to sell their body just to survive. Despite this, in
social relation, this comes with the cost of exploitation of women and also
men; who directly are employed cheaply to man the bar and the girls hawk
themselves like commodity - a job without pension or gratuity. Thus, this is
precisely the thinking of any iron bank oriented mind investor riding with
heavy pulse agenda.
Politicians
from the rich parties are the ones destroying the life of people and the
economy. They are the primary enemies protecting the operators of this
industry. They gave them the license in the name of tax. But the hotel owners
in the community are tax-free. They don't pay any. It is the poor that
pay taxes. These politicians in government use to run whatever pleases them and
to protect the investment of individuals. Interestingly, those in power who
license these operators don’t allow their children to live the same life as
those teenage girls who go into prostitution because of lack of education or
opportunities for decent life.
Replacing
this ongoing investment in the world will require the implementation of
adequate social welfare like quality education, health care, decent housing to
cater for the need of people. For the state to begin address social and
economic crisis through industrialization with a socialist policies. This also
is applicable to all the countries in the world. Without adequate
implementation and provision of social welfare, businesses like the sex
industry will continue to boom as we have it in different countries in the
world. You can read on: http://www.lifeinslum.blogspot.com
